AMC History

Alliance Medical Center was founded in 1971 by a group of dedicated volunteers, community members who answered a need for a clinic that would serve farmworkers and their families. As the years have gone by, Alliance has grown and prospered as we continue to serve the community. We are no longer just a “farmworker clinic.” We now serve everyone from newborns to elders, offering medical and dental care, and a wide range of specialty services.

Our staff of experts guides our patients through the insurance process, and assists when necessary with applications for state and federal programs such as Medi-Cal and Healthy Families. More than half of our patients receive government assistance with their healthcare costs, underlining the need for a safety net like Alliance. Most local doctors do
not accept new Medi-Cal patients. Without us, the only access to healthcare for thousands of families would be the emergency room at the local hospital, the most costly alternative for both the family and the community.

The community of Healdsburg has always supported Alliance. In 2002, we broke ground on a new facility, built with a redevelopment loan from the city of Healdsburg. Congressman Mike Thompson, who helped secure federal funding for the new building, attended the community celebration. In July 2004 our new facility opened and has been busy ever since.

In June 2008, after two years of talks and meetings with community leaders, we opened our second facility in nearby Windsor. That facility continues to grow, and will be open full time in the summer of 2009.

While 80 percent of our clients are of Latino heritage, the local senior population is increasingly attracted to our convenient locations, our modern facilities, and our caring and qualified staff.
